Slash commands not showing up
Help and privacy · Updated
If you type / in Discord and OcelotBOT's commands aren't in the list, or Discord says a command isn't available in this channel, work through these fixes in order. Most problems are solved by one of the first three.
1. Use slash commands, not a prefix
OcelotBOT no longer reads normal messages as commands because Discord has moved bots over to slash commands. Typing something like !help does nothing now. Type /, select the command and press Enter instead, for example /help.
2. Refresh Discord
Discord only updates the list of commands when it loads. Press Ctrl + R (Cmd + R on a Mac) in the desktop app or browser to reload it, or fully close and reopen the mobile app. Then type / again and wait a moment for the list to load.
3. Check you're allowed to use commands
Slash commands are controlled by a permission:
- Open Server Settings and go to Roles.
- Select your role (or @everyone) and make sure Use Application Commands is turned on.
- Check the channel too: open Edit Channel, go to Permissions and make sure Use Application Commands isn't denied for your role.
If you aren't an admin, ask one to check this for you.
4. Check OcelotBOT's integration settings
Server admins can limit which roles and channels can use each command:
- Open Server Settings and go to Integrations.
- Select OcelotBOT and then Manage.
- Look through the command overrides and make sure the command isn't turned off for your role or the channel you're in.
If you have disabled a command using OcelotBOT itself, /settings enablecommand turns it back on, see how to change settings and disable commands.
5. Make sure OcelotBOT is in the server
Check that OcelotBOT is in the member list. If it isn't, add it to your server.
If it is there but still has no commands, it may have been added before Discord introduced slash commands, or without permission to create them. Remove the bot from the server and add it again using the OcelotBOT invite link. You'll need the Manage Server permission to do this.
6. Still stuck?
Ask in the support server and tell us which command you're trying to use, what you see when you type /, and which channel you're in.
