How to get RSS feeds
Reminders, polls and everyday tools · Updated
Discord doesn't have RSS built in, but OcelotBOT can watch a feed for you and post every new item into a channel as it appears. It works for blogs, news sites, status pages, podcasts, or anything else that publishes an RSS feed.
Find the feed address
You need the address of the feed itself, not of the website. It usually looks something like https://example.com/feed.xml or ends in .rss. Many sites link to it from a small orange RSS icon or in the page footer.
Subscribe a channel
Go to the channel you want the updates in and use /subscriptions add rss with the feed address in data:
- /subscriptions add rssdatahttps://example.com/feed.xml
OcelotBOT checks the feed every ten minutes. Each new item is posted as an embed with its title, a short summary and a link to the full article.
OcelotBOT must be able to send messages and embed links in the channel.
See and remove subscriptions
/subscriptions listshows the subscriptions in your server, with an id for each./subscriptions remove id:5stops the one with that id./subscriptions viewlists the kinds of subscription that are available.
Troubleshooting
- Nothing is being posted. Only items published after you subscribed are posted, so a quiet feed won't show anything. Check the address opens in your browser as a page of XML.
- "RSS must be a valid URL". The
dataoption has to start withhttp. - Updates stopped. If a feed keeps failing, OcelotBOT eventually gives up on it. Remove the subscription and add it again.
