How to create a poll
Reminders, polls and everyday tools · Updated
Want to settle an argument, or choose a date for game night? OcelotBOT can run a poll in your server. People vote by pressing a button under the poll and see the results update live.
Create a poll
Use the /poll command. The options are separated with commas and you can give your poll a title:
- /polloptionsCats, DogstitleWhich animal is better?
OcelotBOT posts the poll with one button per option and a bar showing the percentage of votes for each. Pressing a button counts your vote, and pressing a different one changes it. A poll needs at least two options, and can have up to 24 (23 if you allow other entries).
Poll options
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
options | The choices, separated by commas |
title | The question shown at the top (defaults to "Poll") |
expiry | When the poll ends by itself, for example 2 days. Without it the poll runs until you end it |
multiple | Let people vote for more than one option |
open | Adds an Other... button so people can add their own option |
Manage a poll
Every poll has a Manage button. Only the person who created the poll can use it. It lets you:
- Pause or resume voting
- End the poll
- Allow multiple answers
- Reset all of the votes
- See who voted for what, which OcelotBOT sends you in a direct message (so you need to allow DMs from OcelotBOT)
- Edit the title
When a poll ends, the buttons are removed and the final results stay in the channel.
Troubleshooting
- OcelotBOT needs the Embed Links and Read Message History permissions in the channel.
- Don't suppress the embed on a poll message, as the votes are shown in it.
- If you can't find the command when you type
/, see slash commands not showing up.
Commands in this guide
/poll– Separate each option in the poll with a comma. Optionally, you can specify a title with [brackets], or a time frame, or forever.
